The 7 Stages of Grieving

“Have you ever been black? You know when you
wake up one morning and you’re black? Happened
to me this morning. I was in the bathroom, looking
in the mirror, ‘Hey, nice hair, beautiful black skin,
white shiny teeth…. I’m BLACK!”

Overview

Education Performance: Suitable for Years 8 - 12

The 7 Stages of Grieving is a contemporary Indigenous performance text performed by one woman. The play utilizes many theatrical styles drawn from both Indigenous and western traditions as the woman tells poignant and humorous stories of grief and reconciliation. The woman’s journey through love, anger and loss, is a strong reminder of human strength, compassion and the will to survive.
